Parental rules

I reckon parents set rules for their children not so that they can keep control of them (although safety and damage limitation are perhaps additional benefits) but the real reason for boundaries is so that their offspring have the opportunity to figure out ways to sneak past the guards, so to speak, and to figure out the essential life skills of getting what they want when someone else doesn’t want them to have it.
